Identifying Executive Leadership styles can be a useful way to determine which style you want to cultivate in your culture of work. You may already be picking up different traits and behaviors your leaders are developing. What are some ways we can begin to coach them into successful leaders using the resources and wisdom we have? I am going to lay out my top five skills in recognizing leaders that inspire.

  1. Creativity: As a high creative leader myself, this trait is my connection to others immediately to those that inspire. My senses come alive. Creativity energizes a leader. We tend to think and envision the possibilities of breakthrough for the impact of inspiring people to move forward. We see the future faster than most. It truly is a gift from God because He is the ultimate creator Himself. Creativity unlocks vision and makes immediate impossible ideas, become possible. Diversity of ideas and vision is the driving force behind foundational innovation. Each one of us as an entrepreneur or business leader gets to bring something valuable to the organization while winning people to the cause. How can you recognize the interconnectedness of creative thinking among other leaders?
  2. Empowering Other Leaders: Strong leaders value empowerment. When leaders are ready to be used for their purpose, I will pick up on their hunger. This gives me an opportunity to coach them into their vision and help them take ownership of their new ideas, projects and products. Giving ownership to another leader is the strongest trust we can give. This is when innovation flourishes. Growth at a massive speed begins. People love to own their purpose. And when this is taking off on a team, people begin to be empowered. Where do you see that you can empower others?
  3. Consistent Communication: This one trait is where many leaders fall short. If we want to keep our vision alive and team moving at a strong pace, consistently communicate. Even if it is a quick conversation to check in with other leaders as a team, do it! We cannot assume other leaders are understanding the progress of our vision. To stay consistent in our communication, send a quick voice text, a quick email, a text…. whatever form we think is a good connection piece for our leaders… check in quickly and often. Nothing is worse when a leader is put on the sidelines for months at a time wondering where the vision is going than waiting for you to respond. How can you connect with your leaders this week?
  4. Delegation: When I see a leader that knows how and when to delegate to others, they have already acquired something valuable. This reveals to me that they understand how to build and balance a team through the skill of knowing when to hand off a project. This is a high character trait. Why? They aren’t fearful of someone else getting the spotlight or validation when it comes to getting the vision accomplished. When I see skills of delegation, I see a team growing in unity, quickly. When we entrust our leaders to help inspire others through handing off projects and tasks, the team wins. How will you reward delegation with your leaders?
  5. Stability: Leadership that is stable is leadership that people will follow. Stability is strength in the midst of stress and chaos. How many times when a projects gets off course or a mistake happens and leaders show their true colors over something irrelevant. Keep the main thing, the main thing. The main thing is the stability of our emotions as a leader. When a team senses stress or anger over a trivial mistake, it creates disunity. Let’s give our leaders room to process and explain what happened. I can say that the issue will be a simple misunderstanding and that the team will get back on track quickly without having to clean up a mess through unstable emotions. How can you develop stability when inspiring other leaders through a stressful time?

These are my top 5 inspiring traits as a leader. What about you? Think about some ways that you can bring inspiration to your leadership style this week.
