What is servanthood? Can we see this in the workplace? Or does it just appear in the Church? How do we teach this to our younger generation?

Servanthood is the gift of doing for others, sometimes to the exclusion of meeting personal needs. Servants look for ways to do for others both within and beyond the congregation and community. Servants do not choose to serve, but serve from a sense of identity and call.

What are some themes that we notice of a heart of servanthood?

1. Calling: Do people believe you’re willing to sacrifice self interest for the good of the group?
2. Listening; Do people believe that you want to hear their ideas and will value them?
3. Empathy: Do people believe you will understand what is happening in their lives and how it affects them?
4. Healing: Do people come to you when the chips are down or when something traumatic has happened in their lives?
5. Awareness: Do others believe you have a strong awareness for what is going on?
6. Persuasion: Do others follow your request because they want to as opposed to because they have to?
7. Foresight: Do others have confidence in your ability to anticipate the future and consequences?
8. Conceptualization: Do others communicate their ideas and vision for the organization when you are around?
9. Stewardship: Do others believe you are preparing the organization to make a positive difference?
10. Growth: Do people believe you are committed to helping them grow and develop?
11. Community Building: Do people feel a strong sense of community in the organization you lead?
12. Problem Solving: Do others tend to come to you when they get stuck because they trust your ability to help them?
